Signs of termites in an Officer home

What to do when you find something suspicious

Where to look without damaging the house
In newer Officer and Cardinia Lakes estates, start at the visible slab edge. Look beside garage returns, alfresco posts, air conditioner drains, hot water overflows and garden beds. Soil, mulch or paving that hides the inspection edge gives termites a concealed route past a system that may still exist beneath the slab.
In older Pakenham and Beaconsfield homes, use the subfloor access only if it is safe, dry, well lit and has adequate clearance. Check inside at skirting boards near showers, laundries, kitchens and external doors. A moisture source does not prove termites, but termites require moisture and food, so a leaking shower or condensate line changes the risk.
